Program Description: Catholic Community Services, Homeless Adult Services (HAS) is the largest provider of adult homeless services in Tacoma, Washington. Nativity House (NH), a program of HAS, is the central hub to serve homeless adults in the Pierce County region.   It operates 24-hour/7-day a week, offering services (emergency shelter, meals, systematic outreach, Rapid Rehousing, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment, Employment Services, Spiritual Support, 50 units of permanent supportive housing, etc.) to meet the basic needs of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness guests with meeting their goals.

 

Position Description:

The Nativity House Art Room Program Coordinator is responsible for the daily activities in the art room/computer lab. Make sure the art room/computer lab is ready for guests to use when staffed. Making sure supplies are stocked and ready for use. Monitor computer usage. Keep the art room/computer lab clean of any debris and trash.

The Art Room Coordinator may also assist with Shelter Program Generalist duties as needed or assigned. These duties include providing supervision, program structure, behavior management and a wide range of basic needs services, as well as more advanced social services to shelter guest. This includes helping guests navigate a myriad of social service agencies, forms and interviews. Staff are trained in behavior management, basic case services, as well as Motivational Interviewing and other counseling skills

 

Full-time position starting at $21.53 - $22.82/hr (D.O.E) with COMPETITIVE BENEFITS INCLUDE:

Responsibilities

  1. ART ROOM MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
  1. Responsible for making sure the art room is ready and open at the posted times.
  2. Responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of residents while in the art room.
  3. Follows and enforces all IT rules of CCSWW.
  4. Cleans the art room/computer lab daily when on shift.
  5. Keep and maintain the art room supply inventory. Cycle out old supplies first. Let leadership know when art supplies are low and needing replaced.
  6. Assist guests with computer use. Logging in and assisting with computer navigation.
  7. Monitor computer usage to make sure they are used according to the usage guidelines
  8. Participates in training and staff meetings.

 

  1. SHELTER MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Works with the Nativity House staff to effectively manage guest’s behavior and create a safe and welcoming environment.
  2. Respond to disruptive behavior (includes fights, drug dealing, etc.).
  3. Provide behavioral management for a diverse population including individuals with chemical dependency and/or mental health issues. This includes setting limits, encouraging desired behaviors, assigning consequences and helping people think through their actions and decisions.
  4. Respond to guests who are in crisis or having medical emergencies.
  5. Provide services, resources, and information to guests.
  6. Develop supportive relationship with guests by using motivational interviewing strategies, providing an informal listening ear for guests experiencing difficulties.
  7. Work collaboratively with the other Nativity House staff, mental health team and social worker to promote behavioral changes in guests.
  8. Participate in multidisciplinary case staffing meetings as needed to coordinate services for guests.
  9. Maintain written and computerized records.
  10. Communicate with other team members throughout the shift to make sure everything is done, and everyone is aware of any ongoing issues.
  11. Assists with end of the day clean up.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft products
  • Must obtain Food Handler’s card within first 3 months of employment.
  • Experience with different art mediums
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Requires the full manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and alertness to use mechanical equipment
  • Experience working with diverse populations including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues is a plus.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication.
  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to beginning employment.
  • Ability to provide a negative TB test.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
